Project details

This educational simulation presents high school students with a multicolored population of mice and three backdrop options: light, dark, and in-between. Predators can be added to the scene and students can observe how mice that camouflage with the background survive and reproduce while mice that do not camouflage face dwindling numbers. The simulation also includes a microbiology component in which students can observe the mechanism behind the production of melanin, the brown pigment responsible for dark hair and dark skin.
